Microsoft has decided to discontinue its long-running $1 trial offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. This trial, which has been available for several years, has been a popular way for gamers to try out the service before committing to a full subscription. However, Microsoft is now evaluating different marketing promotions for new members instead of the $1 trial offer.
Xbox Game Pass’ $1 Trial Offer for One Month Ends
According to Kari Perez, head of global communications at Xbox, “We have stopped our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future.”
The $1 trial offer allowed users to sign up for a month of Xbox Game Pass before the full subscription kicked in at $14.99 per month for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or $9.99 per month for the PC- or console-only subscriptions. While the trial offer was a great way to introduce the service to friends and family, it is now unclear what promotions Microsoft has planned for new members.
Microsoft has also been expanding its Friends & Family plan for Game Pass Ultimate, which lets users share the benefits of their subscription with up to four other friends or family members. The plan is currently available in several countries, including Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Hungary, Israel, and Sweden, but not yet available in many European markets, the UK, or the US.
This decision to discontinue the $1 trial offer could signal that Microsoft is planning to expand the Friends & Family plan even further, after testing the subscription for less than a year. Recently, Microsoft also expanded the availability of its PC Game Pass subscription to 40 new countries, bringing the total number of markets it is available in to 86.
ShiftDelete.Net Global readers, what do you think about this decision by Microsoft? Do you think it will impact the popularity of Game Pass among gamers?
